Cherry-Picking

I don’t duck and I don’t dodge. I don’t play games and I don’t flauge. I sit back and watch. Words are malleable, but actions? Those are hard to camouflage.

A lot of things are promised and sentiments are shared. But I’m not moved by intentions. What I’m looking for seems rare.

You can’t cheat time, for in time all is revealed. Band-aids over wounds once removed show what’s not healed.

And I’ve done too much self-work to give away my heart for a steal. It’s not their interest that I question, it’s a list of character flaws.

The way they move.

The company they choose.

That without discernment one could easily fall.

I pick ‘em like cherries, I want them healthy and whole. I don’t want him to only look good to my eyes, I want him to feel safe for my soul.
